Heritage Type

Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology.

Value

Geoheritage site of national significant.

Description

The Bukit Gua Badak site represents limestone of the Lenggong Formation (418–359 million years old) that has undergone contact metamorphism into marble due to igneous intrusion during the Triassic period (255–210 million years ago). This process is evidenced by the presence of a shear zone between the limestone and the igneous rocks, displaying folded structural features.

Sedimentary deposits reaching the cave ceiling have preserved a variety of mammalian fossils, including orang utans, rhinoceroses, bearded pigs, deer, and mouse deer, dating back approximately 30,000 years.

Significant

This geosite has high scientific and aesthetic value at the national level as it represents the finest marble outcrop within the Lenggong UGGp.

Other Heritage

Several limestone caves contain archaeological records of prehistoric humans who once inhabited the area, particularly during the Neolithic period and on the walls of some caves, there is also evidence of cave paintings drawn with charcoal by the Negrito Orang Asli. The biodiversity of the limestone forest supports unique flora, such as the Paku Aji (Cycas clivicola).Cycas clivicola).
