Heritage Type

Stratigraphy and Sedimentology

Value

Geoheritage site of national significant.

Description

This site situated along the Baling-Gerik Road, offers exposure to rock formations characterized by interlayered sandstone and dark grey shale.

This site specifically represents the lower segment of the Kubang Pasu Formation, prominently marked by layers of shale. The landscape here features low ridges and ravines, sculpted by the Bok Bak Fault.

These formations originated during the Carboniferous age, approximately 358–299 million years ago, near the shallow Tethys Ocean. Subsequently, Triassic-age granite intrusion uplifted the entire area, shaping the land as we know it today.

Significant

It holds high educational and scientific value at the national level as it represents the basal of the Kubang Pasu Formation’s shale rock type

Other Heritage

Located within the vital ecological corridor highlights its broader ecological (the Central Forest Spine Ecological Corridor 1, designated for wildlife conservation, serves as a habitat for the Malayan Tiger.) and cultural significance (as a roaming area for the Temiar people, who now reside in the Orang Asli Village of Ulu Gerik).
