Heritage Type
Stratigraphy and Sedimentology.
Value
Geoheritage site of national significant.
Description
This roadcut outcrop site displays the argillaceous facies of the Kroh Formation, characterized by its dark-colored rocks resulting from iron sulfide and carbonaceous materials.
Despite experiencing low metamorphism, these rocks retain fossils like graptolites, trilobites, brachiopods, and bryozoans. Originating from Silurian-period mudstones deposited in oxygen-deprived oceans around 443–419 million years ago.
These slate rocks underwent metamorphism during the Late Triassic due to granite intrusion. This site represents the basal segment for argillaceous facies of the Kroh Formation.
Significant
It holds high educational and scientific value at the national level as it represents the basal of the Kroh Formation’s slate rock type.
Other Heritage
These rocks possess a geoarchaeological connection with the prehistoric community in the Lenggong Valley, having been utilized as stone tools such as unifacial and bifacial pebble tool, and adzes.
